In February 1959, nine experienced Soviet hikers died on a mountain in the Ural range under circumstances that have never been fully explained. Their tent was cut open from the inside. Some had fatal internal injuries with no external wounds. The Soviet government classified the files for 30 years.
In 1988, a savings and loan scandal in Omaha unraveled into allegations of a child trafficking network with connections to prominent politicians and businessmen. A congressional investigation was launched — then abruptly shut down. The lead investigator died in a plane crash. The documentary made about it was pulled from broadcast.
In November 1971, a man calling himself Dan Cooper hijacked a Northwest Orient flight, extorted $200,000 in ransom, and parachuted into the Pacific Northwest — never to be seen again. The FBI investigated for 45 years. They found $5,800 of the ransom money in 1980. They never found him.
