GENERATE YOUR NATAL CHARTTropical Zodiac
Western astrology uses the Tropical zodiac, which is fixed to the seasons — 0° Aries always begins at the spring equinox. It is primarily psychological in orientation, focusing on character, motivation, and the inner life. The birth chart (natal chart) is a map of the sky at the exact moment and location of birth, showing the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets in the 12 signs and 12 houses.
The modern Western tradition integrates the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) and emphasizes psychological interpretation. Key figures: Ptolemy, William Lilly, Dane Rudhyar, Liz Greene.
Sidereal Zodiac
Vedic astrology (Jyotish — "science of light") uses the Sidereal zodiac, which is fixed to the actual constellations. Due to the precession of the equinoxes, the Sidereal zodiac is currently about 23–24° behind the Tropical — meaning most people's Vedic Sun sign is one sign earlier than their Western Sun sign.
Jyotish is more predictive in orientation, using dashas (planetary periods), divisional charts, and the lunar mansions (Nakshatras) to time events. It emphasizes the Moon sign (Janma Rashi) and the Ascendant (Lagna) over the Sun sign. Key texts: Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Brihat Jataka.
